"You must forget me," she said.
"If I'm going to forget this, it doesn't matter what happens now, does it?"
She tipped her head to the side. "What do you mean?"
"This."
If it had been daylight in the real world, he would have backed away from her. But this encounter was in a different category, like a dream and yet not a dream. He brought his lips to hers for a kiss that started off sweet and soft and quickly turned hot and hard. It had been eons since he kissed a woman, eons since he'd even thought about it or wanted to. Now he was focusing on every subtle nuance of her lips on his. He felt her shock at the contact. Maybe she tried to pull away. He wasn't sure because he held her fast, wanting more of her--wanting everything from her.
She seemed to know little of kissing, but he felt her relax into the sensuality of the moment, and he felt his own body harden in answer to her response.
He stroked one hand up and down her back, loving the lithe curves of her body. He was thinking about where the two of them could get horizontal when he felt her push against his shoulder.
"You should not."
His eyes blinked open. "Why not?"
"We should never have met."
He had forgotten that he was a man with one leg, a man who no woman was going to want.
"Sorry," he muttered.
She raised her face, searching his eyes. "Are you really sorry?"
"No."
"Good."
She'd gone from protest to reassurance in the space of a few moments.
"You liked it," he said. It wasn't a question but a statement.
"Yes."
He watched her swallow hard.
"But my liking it is all right because you won't remember it."
"The hell I won't."

Frank Decorah was a in the Bethsheda Naval Hospital when strange things began to happen. He hears a friend cry out in the middle of the night and goes to help. He finds Lilith trying to kill his friend. Then Ariel steps out and helps him turn her away.
Thus begins the story of a man who can go where he shouldn't be able to go. A love that shouldn't have been able to begin and what they do to keep it.
I really enjoyed the books beginnings although I think it kind of devolved into mainly sex. I may pick up the next book in the series to find out if there is actually more of a story behind Frank and Ariel. Maybe if i had been invested in the series to begin with the book wouldn't have seemed so pat and dried. It explains how Frank began, before he started his paranormal private eye group that helps people where other places may not.
I think there could have been more story and less sex.

I hope I'm reading these in the right order! This book is about Frank, the head of Decorah Security. I'm not going to be able to say much without telling the story but just know its about a whole new world ) The ending got to me a little because its not a traditional HEA, though there is no cliffhanger. I'm happy and sad for Frank and I hope eventually he does get his full HEA!
This is the first time I have read a book by Rebecca York. I was surprised by the twist in the story line. The characters were very interesting. I like this author.
Frank Decorah is an amputee who's residing in the rehab ward at the Naval Medical Center until he grows used to his right leg prosthesis. One night he's awakened by a scream coming from another patient. Being a warrior, he goes to help and from that moment on his life changes. Illusions happen which take him to another plane of existence where romance awaits him. This story has it all - Paranormal intrigue, sexy scenes and words so well written that it's hard to put the book down. This is a great glimpse into the life of Frank as an introduction for the rest of the series.Very enjoyable!
I have read other books in the Decorah Security Series and was delighted to see this short story featuring Frank Decorah, the founder of the famous - and unusual - Decorah Security firm. Like the other titles in the series, this book slips you into an alternate universe without ever leaving this one. This ability to travel between the two "planes" is what makes these books special. You really believe that this might actually happen. Frank assumes that the first time he meets Ariel, that she isn't real, just his vivid imagination. And the fact that when they are together he has both his legs - that he is not the wounded Navy Commander whose leg was amputated. This is a sensual, beautifully written book. I highly recommend it.
I love the Decorah Security series and this book features the origin of how Frank Decorah came to
find his talent. After losing a leg in battle, he is taken to a hospital with others that survived and one
night, another patient calls to him for help and is confronted by a lady of darkness and he is saved
by a mysterious angel. A wonderful story about the head and founder of the Decorah Security and
ex-Navy SEAL, Frank Decorah and the lady that steals his heart. Must read and get the other books
in the Decorah Security collection!
I've been enjoying this paranormal romance series by Rebecca York. And this latest installment didn't disappoint. In fact, the book takes us all the way back to the beginning to explain how and why Decorah Security got its start.
Frank Decorah was wounded in Iraq. One of his buddies died. Another lost both his legs and is teetering on depression. Frank lost a leg and sees only a bleak future for himself. That's when he starts seeing things. Good and evil in the form of beautiful women. Is he losing his mind? Is Ariel real? Is she trying to kill him or does she love him? Heck, he must be losing his mind!
ON EDGE is a short sexy read. It was exactly the length that I was in the mood for--a complete story that I could finish in an afternoon. The chemistry between Frank and Ariel heated up the pages. I enjoyed how this book headed deeper into the fantasy genre with new parallel worlds (or is Frank crazy?) And best yet, it gave a great background to the other books and the background behind Frank Decorah and Decorah Security.
I highly recommend ON EDGE to readers of paranormal and fantasy romance and anyone looking for a fun, quick, sexy read.
Having never read anything that surveyed the paranormal, I wasn't sure what to expect. But from the get-go, I was thoroughly intrigued. When hearing the piercing screams for help from a fellow war hero confined to his hospital bed, Frank Decorah, himself an amputee, wildly hobbles to give aid. Oddly, no one else hears or responds to the commotion. What confronts Frank as he enters the room is absolutely incredible. From a reality standpoint, Lilith,a woman dressed in black attempts his demise but is thwarted by the strength of the angelic, Ariel. Philosophically, while daring to wage war with evil he is ultimately saved by goodness. This age-old theme permeates On Edge.
The characters in York's book are well-defined. I could clearly picture them and immediately formed strong opinions of each one. I was particularly impressed with Ariel's characterization. Although both beautiful and intelligent, she was no less physically adept when the need presented itself.
I was drawn in by the different levels of existence humans according to York, are capable of living in. I think we all have that power to transend our day-to-day world, but because we don't implement it, we eventually lose it.
I recommend On Edge for your reading pleasure and if you've never thought of the paranormal, this one is a great beginning.
